Travel & Adventure Films:
The 53rd Travelogues Season started the end of October. I am told we are one of the oldest travel series in the nation.
I have said it before and it is worth repeating: all six shows (or any separate film) are a passport to an expanding world. Our filmmakers help us discover and see the world through their eyes and the lenses of their cameras.
Being an “arm chair traveler” is an easy way to “escape” your troubles.
The shows are diverse and slightly exotic. We travel to Europe, Mesoamerica, the Middle East and the Far East.
Come enjoy the world.
BUDDY HATTON January 26 & 27, 2010
“Inside IRAN Today”(Tehran, Ahvaz, Shiraz, Persepolis & Yazd)

Buddy Hatton dispels the many misconceptions about the Iranian people. Iran is as old as history itself with spectacular and distinctive architectural marvels. Visit magnificent monuments of the two great empires of the ancient world and experience the Iranian people—some of the most hospitable, amiable and generous people you will ever meet.
We travel to:
Tehran—the capital where politics and thinking are cutting edge.
Ahvaz/Dezful/Susa with its 2500 year old brink temple of Chogha Zanbil.
Shiraz—the heartland of Persian culture for 2000 years synonymous with nightingales, poetry and wine.
Persepolis-the most famous site in Iran. It is a royal complex built in 518BC.
Yazd—oldest living city on earth. Do not miss this insightful and provocative film.

“Bhutan, the Cloud Kingdom” (… more exotic than Tibet)
The tiny Himalayan Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan was founded in 747 A.D. by an indian saint. Like the many red-robed monks, seen throughout the land, Bhutan purposely sought isolation from the rest of the world; and up to the 20th Century remained something of an unknown land filled with myth and legend. Blessed with a far-sighted and enlightened king, Bhutan began to open up to tourism in the late 70's. Today, some 15,000 tourists per year visit this colorful country and her warm-hearted joyful people.
From the moment your plane touches down at Paro Airport (elevation 7,200 ft.) you will be charmed by a culture unlike any other in the world. Their extraordinary architecture, remarkable wildlife, and near pristine mountain landscapes make this a "must see" destination. From the airport we will briefly visit the Gangtey Palace, (our lodging) downtown Paro, and then head east on the Lateral Road - the only road in Bhutan. Along the way we'll visit road crews, farms, and food vendors. In the capitol of Thimphu we'll stroll around town, enjoy a colorful traffic cop, the farmer's market, architecture, an archery contest, a handmade paper factory, and see the Tashi Choe Dzong - Bhutan's seat of government.
From there we'll go to The Punaka Dzong (the Palace of Great Bliss) and finally a Tsechu (silent "t") or religious festival in Ura.
Reel two will find us in the cloud forest enjoying the beautiful rhododendrons, a satyr tragopan (red pheasant), yaks, a yak herder, the takin (national animal), goral, langurs, macaques, hornbills, and sunbirds. Further along we'll enjoy new home construction, a 100, year old home, a bull fight (2 bulls fighting), a winter wheat harvest, school children, picnickers, a second festival in Domkar, the town of Jakar, a rug weaver, The Gangtey Monastery, Phobjika Valley, and finally Bhutan's most revered site - the Taktsang Monastery or Tiger's Lair on a 3,000 foot shear cliff face.
Come, join us on an unforgettable trip to Bhutan - The Land of the Thunder Dragon.
